Things to look at when marrying a person based Abroad

India is the land of arranged marriages where even modern and highly educated guys and girls prefer to marry the girl or guy of their parent’s choice. For such arranged marriages guys settled abroad are of great demand. But many times parents do not verify the credentials of the groom properly before entrusting the daughter in marriage. And majority of times such mistakes can result in getting cheated. A few days back there was an advertisement by the Ministry of Overseas India Affairs of Government of India in the Times of India newspaper to educate the general public so that they do not fall victims for such cheating by spreading awareness. So, what are the things to look at when going for an arranged marriage with a person based Abroad? Given are details some legal and background details to check before saying ‘yes’ for marriage with a man or woman settled abroad according to the advertisement.

Check the marital status of the person to ensure that he/she is single
Check about the Business or Job of the person and the location the person is based at.
Check the NRI Status as to whether the person is a Green Card Holder or not

One may get most of these details by checking the Passport, Bank Statement, Residence Proof, Appointment Letter and Visa details of the person for verification. Also if the person is a working professional it does not hurt to check the details of the company and his job profile to be extra sure that you are not being cheated. Is it not better to be vigilant and cautious than regret later?

What’s Your Engagement Ring Style?

A person’s sense of style and the clothes they choose to wear can say a lot about them. It can also influence them in other areas of their lives. If you and your partner are about to get married and you’re choosing an engagement ring, odds are you want one that fits in with your wardrobe and your style. In fact, if you aren’t sure about the type or style of engagement ring that you want, taking a peak at your personal sense of style can offer the perfect jumping off point. Whether you are a modern, classic, or vintage woman, there’s the perfect engagement ring out there for you.

Modern : While some people might call your wardrobe “trendy” you prefer the term “cutting edge”. Either way if it’s the current hot style, then odds are it’s on your back. When it comes to where you live, you prefer clean, crisp lines and minimum fuss. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t like the finer things in life, just that you’d rather have fewer things that are more valuable. With its geometrical band, the modern engagement ring is a perfect fit for you and your life. Modern rings offer you something different from your run of the mill band. Maybe a unique cut of diamond with other stones surrounding it, or a clunky platinum band. Regardless of the modern ring that you choose, it will be much more than a ring: it will be a piece of art.

Classic : You prefer to have staple pieces in your wardrobe rather than the latest trend. The little black dress, a white cardigan, and navy pea-coat – these are all things that can be found in your closet. You wear timeless pieces that will continue to be in fashion from year to year. Don’t get me wrong: you’re still stylish. You just don’t go along with the current trends. You prefer neutrals with small splashes of color in both your wardrobe and your home furnishings. A solitaire with a simple setting is the perfect ring for you. While other may consider it a bit boring and on the safe side, you recognize it for what it is: a timeless, beautiful piece of jewelry that will look stylish and gorgeous for the rest of your life.

Vintage : Ninety percent of your wardrobe comes from second hand and vintage clothing stores. The other ten percent you purchase online at vintage clothing websites. Your personal motto is “Everything old is new again.” Whether it’s your own wardrobe or the furniture around your home, your style is best described as eclectic, a mix-match of different styles and eras. You love colorful and playful pieces and you don’t always worry about whether or not they will fit in with what you already have. You love the look and feel of old jewelry and aren’t opposed to having an engagement ring with something other than a diamond for the stone. An oval shaped ruby or amethyst surrounded by smaller stones on a delicate band is the perfect choice. If you can’t find your perfect vintage ring in a vintage or antique jeweler’s, don’t worry. You can always opt to buy a replica of your favorite vintage ring. It might not be true vintage, but will still give you the look and feel that you’re going for.

Regardless of your own personal style, the perfect engagement ring is out there for you. If you can’t finds it locally you can always check out online jewelry stores. Online stores will usually have a wider variety and better pricing than their brick and mortar counterparts.

Three Epic Fail Romances from the Movies

Guest Post from David
Are you clueless about love and dating but know your movies like no one else’s business?  Do you have stacks of DVDs and Blu-Rays and spend just as much time on Netflix as you do on E-Harmony?  Maybe it’s time you learned a few things from the movies, like these epic fail romances.  Hey, there’s a reason we enjoy watching other people make fools of themselves in the name of love.  So we don’t have to make the same mistakes.

500 Days of Summer : There’s nothing quite like romance in retrospect.  Who can watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt fall madly in love with a girl who obviously doesn’t respect him or like him that much? This is a great film and an epic fail of a romance that reminds guys never to invest more in a relationship than you’re getting back. Sometimes the happy ending (even in the story of your own life) is internal. Your happy ending is to get over someone who is bad news for you, and then use your passion and energy to find someone who really deserves you.

Manhattan : Woody Allen’s fawning over Mariel Hemingway (a barely legal woman at the time) was creepy on so many levels. However, it was also the embodiment of an unstable May-December relationship. He was unable to commit himself to a young woman he couldn’t fully trust, because of all sorts of social issues, body image issues and paranoia.  He chased his replacement daughter away and broke her heart, only to go crawling back to her after he was dumped by a woman his own age.  This is not so much a movie against older-younger relationships as it is a movie that warns you against pursuing doomed romances that you know will fail—and yet try anyway. If you see warning signs all over the place then what makes you think you can defy the odds?  The thirst for love can move people to do stupid things.  Have the strength to evaluate your prospects and say no to a relationship if you can tell it’s going to cause heartache in the end.

Knocked Up : Knocked Up may be a funny movie, but it’s hardly a romantic date movie. This is a two-hour horror film on what could happen if you score on the first date and a terrible accident occurs. If you’re lucky, you end up really liking the guy or girl you’re forced to marry and really enjoy raising an instant family. Of course, there’s also the chance that you’ll hate each other but still have to pay mom child support. This is not quite a tragic love story, but I think having a child conceived after the first date and then being chained to a person you may or may not like for the rest of your life is an epic fail of a situation. Apparently though, Seth Rogan’s character had such low-self esteem he was grateful to have any woman interested in him.  That’s what you call an “epic save.” Guys and girls: it usually doesn’t work this way in real life.  Always use protection and think things through before you make that extra-suave move.

Up in the Air : Forget about the spiritual journey George Clooney’s character “Ryan” went through—what about the epic fail he had in romancing Natalie?  Though not truly about online dating, this movie does manage to show the inherent risks you take when you date someone “out of town.” When you chat online, you are meeting people in a worldwide “virtual bar” where many can come together, but few people can actually leave together.  When you both happen to be in one place at the same time, fireworks can start.  However, settling back down to reality and finding out that your partner is not ready to make a leap of faith can be disheartening. This is why many online singles limit themselves to local partners (not to mention unattached partners!).Because they want love to happen in the real world and not in fantasy land.

Learn from these epic romance failures and avoid situations that will only bring trouble. Stick to the fairy tale princes and princesses and find your happy ending!

Mental Benefits of Socializing and Dating

Un-social Networking
Kindly tallied and conveniently displayed on your Facebook Profile page, the latest numbers indicate that you have over 300 friends. Their smiling faces stare back at you from tiny boxes that greet you each time you log on. How do you feel knowing you have so many friends? With social networking and instant messaging, most of the socializing people do happens via the computer screen. Although convenient, cyber socializing has ramifications that extend beyond your naked calendar and, to be precise, into your brain. For the sake of your mental health, you need more physical face time with friends and love interests.

Social Brains
The brain is a complex command center engineered with highly sophisticated synaptic cogs, axons, and firing neurons. As competent as the brain is, it isn’t immune to the stimulus introduced to it. Certain drugs can actually change brain chemistry, while activities like a daily Sudoku puzzle can improve brain functioning and memory. What then would happen to your brain if you were to forgo Facebook and introduce it to another person, face to face? Quite a lot, actually.

Friends with (Mental Health) Benefits
Consider a recent study conducted by the University of Michigan. When participants spoke to individuals they had not met before in a conversational manner, their ability to solve problems and perform cognitive tasks improved. This is just another reason to go on more first dates. It turns out social savvy and smarts go hand in hand. By swapping thoughts, ideas, or basic stats with people you come in contact with, your brain’s executive functioning—that all-important part that controls planning and thinking—gets a boost. However, when competitive conversations occurred between participants in the same study, there was no improvement in cognitive performance. Translation, don’t date jerks who just want to argue. You may not become Mensa material by socializing, but a good chin-wag can get those cogs going.

Talk to a Friend
The human ability to express thoughts, ideas, emotions, and wishes with others is so basic it’s easy to miss how essential it is for good mental health, and not just cognition. A study conducted among medical students showed that those who were assigned to study in pairs had markedly lower levels of stress than those assigned to work alone. A number of clinical studies performed over the last several years also proved that people with a network of friends they could actually speak to were more resilient. They coped better with illness, impairments, and life stresses than individuals without a support network.

I'll Have My Brain Call Your Brain
Considering how beneficial regular conversation is for mental health, you may want to think twice about two hours of Twitter browsing. If you need some ideas for socializing, try one of the following:

Host a work party
Have a neighborhood potluck
Start a book club meeting
Attend a dance class
Go on more dates
Go to an exhibit opening

These are all great ways to socialize, give your brain some beneficial stimuli, and stave off loneliness. You could even invite your 300 friends. While it might feel good to turn on the computer and see what's going on in the virtual social world, you'll get many benefits from scheduling activities with friends or planning events to meet new people and date.

Getting over a Bad Dating Experience – What to do Next?

If you’re on the dating scene, you’re going to have to deal with a bad date or a rejection at some point. Of course, we’d all like to think we’ll at least have a good time on a date and make new friends, but what if your date ends up turning you down? How do you deal with this blow to your confidence?

Rejection is hard for anyone to deal with, especially if you have a few dates in a row that end the same way – the other person just doesn’t seem that into you. You might come to the conclusion that all men or women are bad and not worth the effort, or even worse that you’re unattractive and not a good catch. This is the wrong way of thinking, and will only give you a bad attitude going into your next date. If you start to assume your dates will end badly, they probably will!

It’s important to take a realistic view of your dating. Yes, not everyone will be attracted to you, and not everyone will laugh at your jokes, but this goes both ways too. How many men or women have you rejected, through no fault of their own but just because they weren’t right? Think of how many good relationships you have with friends and family, and it’s clear that you can get on with people and have meaningful friendships. A romantic relationship is just an extension of this, so you already have all the skills you need.

If someone rejects you after a date, it’s often nothing to do with you and everything to do with them. They know what they’re looking for and you don’t fit the bill, but that doesn’t mean they’re better than you, or that there’s anything wrong with the way you are. Just as they’re looking for the right person, so are you. They obviously weren’t right for you either.

A great way to get over a bad date isn’t just to change the way you’re thinking, but to give your physical self some attention too. This doesn’t mean you need to take drastic action because you’re unattractive – rather, that a new haircut or a new dress or even just a spa treatment can give you a confidence boost and make you feel better in yourself. Sometimes pampering is the best medicine, and if you’re relaxed, happy and confident this will come across in your next date. A positive attitude really does make a difference when it comes to the dating scene, and helps to maximize your chances of finding the right person for you.

Blindsided by Love

Have you been blindsided? What exactly does it mean to be blindsided? What are the signs of a Blindside Breakup? How to deal with such a Relationship Breakup? How to bounce back after being blindsided?

According to The Free Dictionary it means hit or attack on or from the blind side or to catch or take unawares, especially with harmful or detrimental results. A Blindside can be described as the worse when it comes to a love relationship because it happens when you least expect it and you never see coming. One does not get any warning signs or signals in this type of breakup. The blow to ego and self-esteem is devastating beyond belief especially because the victims of blindside are those who have assumed that all is well with the relationship only to be shattered when the other person announces that they want to break up. Most of them do not even give a proper explanation or reasoning as to why the break up is happening leaving the other person to wonder what went wrong with the relationship. Most of the times what is given as an excuse are ‘It's not you, it's me’.That may seem like a good excuse to give to when you are ready to end the relationship, but is it your real reason? However, the person who broke up the relationship may be unhappy with it for whatsoever reasons and would have already realized that there was something amiss in the relationship. The advancement of technology has facilitated such breakups more easily with instant messages, voice mails, facebook status and many more.

Being blindsided can make a person miserable and shattered. But things would pass on if you give yourself time. There is no point crying over split milk. Accept that the Relationship has ended and that you should move on.Accept that the Guy who blindsided you was never worthy of your love and such a relationship would have had no future. Believe that whatever happened happened for the best and you deserved someone better. Go to Gym; take up a Hobby, holiday with friends or whatever would make you happy. Most importantly, clear the clutter having your previous relationship energy so that you can mend your broken heart fast.

Dedicated to the One That Got Away

Guest Post by Danny
This article is dedicated to the one that got away, and I think you already know who I am talking about. Practically every person has a “one that got away”, that is, an ex-lover or perhaps a would-be lover that never quite materialized.  Maybe you met this person online or knew him or her in person. The problem was that the two of you were mistimed.

It wasn’t necessarily a mismatch, because you could tell there was some compatibility there.  However, because one or both of you were at different places in life, perhaps holding on to different perspectives, or very challenging circumstances, a romantic match just wasn’t possible.

Usually, mistimed matches result because of one of these factors:

One or both of you was dating someone else
One or both of you didn’t quite understand the right way to flirt
There were personal or secular distractions
Your values (what you wanted in a mate) were different back then
One factor (perhaps insignificant now) kept you apart
Dramatic or traumatic circumstances broke you up
One of you moved away

Despite our best attempts to remove a person from our memory (which Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind proved was possible) we will occasionally think back to a lost romance and wonder—if things were different—if it would have worked out. The answer is neither as happy nor as fatalistic as you would have it.

So…Would it Have Worked Out?

There’s no sense in concluding that because the relationship didn’t work out that you were not destined to be together.  Who knows?  Perhaps the two of you would have been compatible.  By the same logic, the two of you could have worked things out to a point, only to discover that you had other major problems to work through.

Therefore, it’s not practical to daydream of what could have been.  Like any other relationship you’ve had, it’s very possible that this idealized match could have heated up and then fizzled out because of irreconcilable differences or tragic circumstances.

What matters is the person that you are now.  We must all live in the present and accept that the past version of “us” is just a memory.  Some people may find the very idea of tracking down an “old crush” very intimidating and rightfully so.  In reality, you are not meeting the old, idealized person you once remember…you are meeting the person he or she has turned into, someone that could be very different from your memory and imagination.

That’s not to suggest that it’s a mistake to do a little research.  Social media sites like Face Book and MySpace make it very easy to track down old high school loves, exes, crushes and cute acquaintances.

Anti-Climactic Meetings?

However, don’t be too crushed if your crush is less than welcoming—especially if you cyber-stalk this person by name and suddenly re-appear in his/her life.  Some people dislike faces from the past, whereas others may not even remember you.  If though you find another old softie like you, then enjoy the day of reminiscing.

Otherwise, it’s best to focus on the person you are today and the type of match you want to meet right now.  If you love the idea of a forgotten lover (or crush) then instead of daydreaming about a reunion that will never happen, think about the qualities and traits that the old forgotten crush had that made you feel happy.  These are the qualities you should be looking for today in someone that does match you in the present.

This common sense approach to dating will spare you lots of wistful heart-aching.  Love who you are now and the journey you have taken. Let someone in without pretenses!

How can I Trust someone who cheated on me before?

Recently I had a talk with a friend who walked out of her Husband and was staying with her family after catching him red handed with another woman. My friend who works in Senior Management level with a Bank arrived one day early after her tour and decided to surprise her husband who also is a Top Executive with an MNC only to get surprised herself. She found him in Bed with someone half his age and when she confronted him about it he admitted that he was having an affair with the girl for over 2 years and pleaded her not to leave him. Shattered by his revelation my friend left the House and went to her Mom’s only to be scolded and instructed to go back to her Husband. According to her Mother Guys are Guys and they do get carried away at times and now that he has promised to leave the girl and be faithful to her she should go back to him. Her Family was more concerned about the family reputation and what others would think than their own daughters hurt.

In fact my friend had forgiven her husband few years ago after finding that he had spend a night with a colleague while on tour after he told her that he would not repeat the mistake. After constant pressure from family and relatives to patch up and get back to her husband now my friend has moved out of her Parent’s place and is staying alone in another Apartment and also has filed for a Divorce. My friend had so much bitterness in her voice when she said ‘Once a cheat, always a cheat’ when talking about her husband.

Can I really Trust my Partner after he had an Affair? How Do You Trust someone that has cheated on you twice? Should I stay with my Boyfriend who cheated on me after saying that he would never do anything like that? How do I learn to trust someone who cheated on me? How do I know he is being truthful this time? He has cheated on me once, will he do it again? I often get such mails asking for relationship advice. All I have to say is it depends on the situation.

When most people advice to salvage the relationship and get back to the spouse by forgiving him, I have mostly been against this especially when the breakup is due to infidelity or domestic violence and abuse. When the break up happens due to misunderstandings or involvement of in laws etc majority of times the relationships could work again but when it is due to serious issue like cheating and abuse it is noticed that majority of times despite of patching up they do not survive and results in more hurt and pain. No matter how much you try when a marriage or love relationship breaks up because of these reasons it is almost impossible to gain the trust and beauty of the relationship again. Many spouses even though they say that they have forgiven their Partner for the cheating rarely are able to forgive the spouses from their heart and when quarrels happen they bring the topic again thereby opening the old wounds again. So if you cannot forgive and forget the mistake then I would say not to attempt to patch up with the Spouse. It is better to accept the break up and move on with life.

We all do make mistakes and are many times forgiven for them too. Similarly, if someone makes a mistake the first time I think that person should be given a second chance. But if he had made the mistake earlier too then there are a few things one should consider before giving that person a second chance. I would even say that majority of times Getting Back to an Ex may be a Mistake.

Is he/she genuinely sorry for his/her deed?
Would he/she cut all the ties with the person they had an affair with?
Is he/she willing to seek Counseling and advice from a Relationship Expert?

All the points given above are very important if you are thinking of beginning a relationship all over again as building trust again after your partner had an Affair is not an easy thing to do. If the answer is ‘Yes’ to the above questions then maybe there is a chance that your relationship could be salvaged and made to work and counseling could play an important part in it to understand each other better.

I Need to get a Girlfriend fast

I am sorry. It is not what you think. It is the typical response of guys who broke up from long term relationships or those who plan to dump their girlfriends wanting to find a replacement fast to fill in the void and loneliness caused by the break up.  There are many instances where women dump men too and even in such cases the affected men lookout for women to fill the void created by the lost relationship and to prove that they are worthy of love and affection from the opposite sex. Many Men get into rebound relationships or dating to prove to their Ex’s that they can get another or probably a better girl than the Ex.

Majority of times when a break up happens people lose their self esteem and confidence and in order to restore that turn to quick fix relationships. They do this in hope that they would be able to forget the hurt and pain caused by the broken relationship and to fill the gap which was resulted from the previous relationship. But what they forget is that such relationships on rebound do not last long as they are not based on love and often result in further heart break and pain. Rebounders often tend to forget that in order to bounce back they are using someone and may hurt that person while doing so. Many times it is noticed that many times Ex’s comes back and the rebounder without any thought dumps the person whom they used to bounce back to get back to Ex.

It is true that Breakups are tough but the reasons for majority of breakups are getting into the relationship for the wrong reasons. All relationships need time to become strong and survive all problems. So efforts and time must be given to understand the Partner and not rush into anything too fast. I am not telling that relationships with the right reasons do not fail. Many times that happens too and it is wise to give time for you so that the pain is healed before moving into a new relationship. If you want to bounce back it is better to look for healthy ways to bounce back after a broken relationship than immediately getting into a relationship on rebound.

Rich guys don't Get all the girls

Many men think that in order to attract and keep a great girl, they need to have a lot of money. This is not necessarily so. In reality, rich guys don't get all the girls. Sure, money can be nice, but most prefer someone who is interested in them. They are looking for someone that wants to make them feel special.

One way to accomplish this is to find out what the other person likes to do and then arrange a way to participate in the activity while still on a budget. Most people can think of many ways to pursue an interest if they have a good supply of cash, but that does not mean you cannot still participate if you have limited funds. It just takes creativity, thought and planning.

There are many types of inexpensive dates that can be arranged. Try things such as poetry readings at local bookstores, trips to local museums, films at the dollar movies, hiking, fishing, stargazing and a host of other types of activities that are either free or very low cost. The main thing to remember with any of these excursions is to make it memorable by showing you have put thought into the date. Do not just attend a poetry reading. Add something to the event to tie it together. Here are some examples:

Sporty Night Out

If the girl you are interested in is a sports enthusiast, take her to a high school or little league sporting event. Make it a fun experience by adding in the same types of extras that you would if you had purchased expensive tickets to a professional sporting event. For instance, have a tailgate party before the game at home. Grill hamburgers and other such foods just like you would for other sporting events.

A Night at the Theater

To many a night at the theater is a sure way to spend a lot of money. However, if you are careful you can still have a great night out on a budget. Many local theater companies perform plays, musicals and other types of theater without the large ticket prices. Not to mention local high schools and centers that have performing arts classes, they all have performances that will not cost a great deal of cash. Since these events usually start a bit earlier than most, you can make the night even more special with an early evening picnic at the park for dinner.

The key is to take a few simple inexpensive ideas and put them together in a way that is uniquely your own. Take the time to show the other person you are thinking of them, you do not have to be rich to do that.

Could laser eye surgery help me find love?

There are many things that could help in your quest to find your dream partner and such factors include luck, circumstances and determination. One of the most important traits needed to find love is confidence and this works on so many levels. Firstly, having confidence is a characteristic that is often attractive to the opposite sex and secondly it will ensure that you actually take the plunge and go out and try and meet people.

People who wear glasses are generally found to have less confidence than those who have perfect vision, although this is not always the case. If you are a glasses wearer who is full of confidence then please accept my apology. A lack of confidence is most likely in adolescent glasses wearers and also those people who have worn glasses from a young age, resulting in deep seated insecurity and self esteem issues. Contact lenses are an obvious solution for such glasses wearers and this can result in an almost instant increase in self esteem. For those not suitable for contact lenses, then laser eye surgery is an option that you could consider. For some people, having laser eye surgery can be an overwhelming emotional experience, especially if you have had particularly bad eye sight all your life. It is not uncommon for people to cry once they realize how good their vision is after the surgery without glasses. This emotional release is a way of releasing all the negative emotions that have been associated with having poor eye sight through their life. They are most definitely tears of happiness and this emotional release can help heal any bad memories associated with having poor eyesight.

Laser eye surgery is one of the most common elective surgeries currently being carried out and the chance of achieving 20:20 vision is now extremely high. There are 2 main types of laser eye surgery which are Lasik and PRK (sometimes called Lasek) and you will be presented with these 2 options if you decide to have the surgery. Lasik is generally the first choice for surgery as the recovery period is a lot shorter when compared with PRK. Most people having Lasik have perfect vision almost immediately and the recovery period is typically only 24 – 48 hours. The risks of laser eye surgery are extremely low and the chances of a serious complication are less than 1 in a 10,000. If you are interested in laser eye surgery you should make sure you do your homework to ensure you are fully informed.
